This fabulous tale relates a Dutch resistance fighter's unconventional escape from her homeland--held by war-time enemies--straight into the dangerous world of counter espionage. Add that it's set in Scotland during World War Two, and it's a brilliant mix of trouble and bravery.

Sarah Sundin does a great job interweaving historical information and fun characters. In Midnight on the Scottish Shore, she starts off in The Netherlands with Cilla van der Zee--a woman determined to protect her sister and defy the Nazis by supplying the resistance with vital information. Unfortunately, her sister supports the very cause that she's trying to undermine, and this leads Cilla into a dangerous confrontation where her loyalties are almost exposed. Now, the only way to protect herself and her family is to spy for the Nazis. Well, Cilla hopes that she can find an alternative as soon as her enemies dump her in Scotland. While they believe that she's their dedicated spy, she plans to abandon their cause and seek asylum. Nothing goes as planned, and she ends up with only one option--send fake information to her handlers in The Netherlands, information supplied to her by the British navy. Although she does this faithfully, she still struggles to find her place in the relative safety of her new home.
